Today was the Autumn Budget in the UK, where the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, announced some good news for those who enjoy a quality drink, and good news for publicans and brewers across the country.
Duties on spirits, wines, and beers have been frozen, where many were expecting an increase. The only increase in duty will be on “cheap, high strength, low quality products – especially so-called white ciders”. If you like to drink quality products as we do, that’s great.
He also announced a reduction in business rates for publicans and breweries, saving up to £1,000 a year on bills. Good news for the industry and good news for the future of brewing.
